The Only People Who Are Going to Criticize You Are Below You

Too many people spend too much of their time worrying about what other people are saying about them or what other people think about them.

One thing that helped me out, and helps out a handful of people that I speak to, is remembering that nobody who is doing better than you will want to take the time to talk poorly about you.

Do you think LeBron James spends any of his time hating on G-League or NCAA basketball players? Or baseball players? Or accountants? Or mailmen?

Not a chance.

Do you think an accountant or a mailman has talked bad about LeBron before?

I’d almost guarantee it.

When you are succeeding, or striving to succeed, you shouldn’t have the time or energy to worry about what other people are doing and how they are doing it.

You’re too busy improving yourself and your own life to worry about someone else and their life.

When you hear that someone said something negative about you, remember this. Remember that they are only concerned with you and only want to bring you down because you are above them.

If I am climbing a mountain I’m not going to worry about talking about how bad a climber below me is. I am too concerned with my own climb.

However, the climber below me might want to talk bad about me because if they can do that and mess me up, I might fall back to the level they are at or if I pay too much attention to it I will get distracted and it will give them time to catch up.

It doesn’t make any sense for me to pay any mind to someone below me that feels that they need to talk bad about me because they want me down at their same level.

This whole thing works on two different planes though.

Do you talk bad about people? Do you talk about people behind their backs?

Probably means they are doing better than you… and that makes you the lower climber that is trying to hold someone else back just to make yourself feel better.

Instead of concerning yourself with other people, focus on YOU.

Focus on YOUR journey and YOUR abilities.

If you aren’t where you want to be, if you aren’t as high up the mountain as you’d like, then put your nose down and climb. Reaching at another climbers feet to try and pull them back down won’t get you any higher up the mountain.

Put your time and energy in to your life and your growth, not another person and their demise.
